This dance piece is a result of two years of movement and conceptual research on the theme of death.
For two years, the participants of this research asked themselves and many others questions about death.
What was my first meeting with death? Am I aware that I will die - at all times? What is my relationship with the dead ones? Where is the difference between the deaths of different people? What does dance have to do with death? How has death affected me as an artist?
Trying to answer, we developed our own dance practices of death. We have been attending to death, being dead, dancing with the dead ones, being matter that will die, moving, singing, observing etc etc.
This led us to this dance piece. SMRTъ is a common root, that all slavic languages recognise as DEATH.
The project had 4 iterations and was produced by SDVIG studio in Saint-Petersburg.
